SenseViewertm TechnologyContemporary information systems already are beginning to operate with the meanings of words. Such an approach is considered uniquely effective and as having a bright future. Cogitum envisions the next revolution in Internet development as being based on technologies for representing and operating with the "meaning" of a document as easily as with the document itself. Cogitum is a leader in the development of systems for representation of the meaning of documents. For the realization of this goal, Cogitum is working out its own Internet technology, SenseViewertm, which integrates Internet software with Internet content. The technology is based on (a) the utilization of the general concept of meta-information, (b) XML (extensible markup language) as a mean of integration of meta-information, (c) the principles of knowledge management for working out a scheme for description of the meta-information, and (d) the company's own R&D results in programming and content management. Meta-information is a generic approach towards developing knowledge management applications, based on bundling each piece of original information with additional information that describes the status and role of said piece. The universal instrumental tool for operating with meta-information is XML (eXtensible Markup Language), which makes it possible to describe in a unique way the structure of meta-information, without limiting the choices available for determining the categories to be used for markup. A typical reason for using meta-information is that it makes Internet-search much more precise. When, for example, someone is interested in Gerald Ford, the American president, he will not have to look through thousands of links to articles on the Ford Foundation, the Ford Motor Company, the founder of the company, cars manufactured by Ford, etc. Cogitum uses the latest methods in its work, including knowledge management and XML, along with its own revolutionary techniques, for achieving an ambitious goal: the explicit representation of meta-information, which could be regarded as the "sense" or "meaning" of a document. Among the many advantages of the SenseViewertm technique is the possibility of direct access to the knowledge that is usually hidden in large-scale sets of documents, such as collections of news media publications. The fields with a potential for effective use of SenseViewertm technology are:
XML and SenseViewertmThe SenseViewertm technology is based essentially on XML and related technologies - X-link, X-Pointer, and others. XML, which is the standard for contemporary information systems, provides a framework for quick and effective application development. Key links for XML:
